Hans, what are the waves reflecting off of to cause clapotis? Here in Newfoundland clapotis develop when waves reflect off of rocky cliffs and interact with incoming waves.

Hi Tony!
Clapotis can also be produced by waves refracted around an island.
There is a complex situation on the eastern tip of the Aardappelenbult: the wave lines curve of by the tip of the sand and come together from different directions. The interference of the wave patterns causes clapotis. But also the incoming tide, the water streaming down the sand and the windeffect have influence. It's a fascinating spot to read and explore the sea. On a short distance from the "clapotis section" was a nice standing wave.
Greetings,
Hans

PS: Tony: are you from Newfoundland? The background of your portrait looks very Dutch to me!
